SONA FOR DENTAL PRACTICES
The phone that fills your chairs.
Your front desk is checking in a patient, the hygienist is mid-cleaning, and the phone is ringing. Sona picks up, books straight into your schedule, and gets the urgent calls to the right person.
For healthcare practices, Sona starts with a conversation: it isn't set up for patient health information yet, and we don't offer a business associate agreement (BAA) today. Talk to us before you set anything up.
Thanks for calling Beam Dental — this is Sona, the practice's AI receptionist. How can I help?
Hi — I just moved here and I'm looking for a new dentist. Do you take Delta Dental?
Welcome to the neighborhood! Yes — we're in-network with Delta Dental PPO. Want me to set you up with a new-patient exam and cleaning?
Yes please. Ideally a Saturday?
We do Saturdays twice a month — I have this Saturday at 10:40 or the 26th at 9:00. Which one?
This Saturday works.
Done — Saturday at 10:40. I've noted Delta Dental for the front desk. See you then!

The problem
Your front desk can't be in two places.
What it costs
Chair time
is phone-blind time
Hands in a mouth means nobody reaches the phone. A patient with a toothache doesn't wait for a callback — they call the practice across the street.
New patients
book with whoever answers
Someone looking for a new dentist is choosing a practice, not a time slot. The first front desk that picks up and offers an exam is the one they book with.
6 PM
is when patients actually call
Toothaches don't keep office hours. The calls that fill tomorrow's chairs come after your team goes home.
Use cases
Nobody at the chair has to reach for the phone.
Urgent calls
Broken crown at 9 PM? Sona books the first morning slot and puts the calls your rules mark urgent through to the on-call dentist. It doesn't assess symptoms, and it is instructed to tell a caller describing an emergency to hang up and dial 911.

New-patient booking
Answers “do you take my insurance?” from your own documents and books the exam and cleaning inside the call.
Reschedules & cancellations
Handles the “can I move my cleaning” calls that eat your front desk's morning: old slot released, new one confirmed.
Insurance & pricing questions
In-network plans, cleaning prices, financing options, answered from your knowledge base the same way every time.
After-hours coverage
Nights and weekends are answered the way a weekday morning is, with the messages waiting in your inbox when you open.
Front desk alerts
Every booking, move and cancellation is emailed to your front desk with a calendar file, the moment it happens.

Type as the caller
Don't take our word for it. Interrogate it.
Type what a customer would say on the phone. The replies come from a canned table for a fictional business — a real deployment answers from your own documents.

The panel
Every call lands somewhere. That somewhere is open.
Beam Dental is a seeded dental practice workspace running the real dashboard — two weeks of calls, transcripts, bookings and agent config. A two-chair practice in San Francisco. The emergencies that came in after close, the cleanings that filled the week, and the insurance answers that never varied.

Where to look first
The chipped tooth, at 9 PM
01Open call one. The first morning slot booked and an urgent message left for the dentist — all while the office was dark.
/dashboard/calls →Where the insurance answer comes from
02Delta Dental PPO, the Saturday hours, the $180 cleaning: knowledge-base entries, not model guesses. One crawl failed on robots.txt, which is what a real KB looks like.
/dashboard/kb →Tomorrow's chairs
03Booked, rescheduled, cancelled, completed and the no-show — the whole schedule, filtered the way a front desk actually filters it.
/dashboard/appointments →Triage, written down
04Swelling and trauma go to the on-call dentist; everything else takes the next opening. That rule is a line in the prompt, and you can read it.
/dashboard/agents →
Read-only means read-only: open every page, read every transcript, filter every list, change nothing. Editing, activating an agent, buying a number and inviting a teammate are blocked in the panel and again in the database. The callers and bookings are invented; the pipeline and the compliance copy they came from are the ones your own workspace would run.

FAQ
Questions dental practices actually ask.
Does Sona book into my practice software?
Sona books against the availability you set in the dashboard — working hours, booking rules, date overrides — so there is nothing to connect and nothing to keep in sync. It keeps one schedule for the practice; separate calendars for each clinician, and calendar and practice-management integrations, are on the roadmap, not shipped.
Can we use Sona for patient calls?
Not yet. Sona isn't set up for protected health information, and we don't offer a business associate agreement (BAA) today, so our Terms don't allow patient information through it. Talk to us before you set anything up.
Can it tell a real emergency from a toothache?
Sona follows the rules you write rather than judging symptoms: calls you mark urgent — swelling, trauma, bleeding that won't stop — go to your on-call dentist, or become an urgent message if nobody picks up. Everything else gets the first available opening. Sona is not an emergency service, and it is instructed to tell a caller describing an emergency to hang up and dial 911.
Will older patients talk to an AI?
Sona speaks plainly, never rushes, repeats itself patiently, and hands off to a human the moment a caller asks.
What happens during lunch and after close?
Nothing changes. Sona answers identically at the noon rush and at 2 AM, and your schedule fills while the office is dark.
